Soo Nyung Kim of South Korea, an Olympic gold medalist, set two world records and took an early lead in the women’s event of the World Archery Championships opening at Chavannes Stadium in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Allen Rasor, a 16-year-old American, moved to the top in the men’s standings, edging Vadim Shikarev of the Soviet Union.
Kim, 18, scored 336 points over 70 meters and 347 points at the 60-meter target, bettering records at both distances.
Her combined total of 683 put her 20 points ahead of Swedish runner-up Jenny Sjowall.
In the men’s event, Rasor took fifth place at the 90-meter target but then moved ahead at 70 meters for a combined 647 points, two points better than Shikarev.
