It’s EEEEEEEE

” . . . A-n-n looks dreadful, but A-n-n-e looks so much more distinguished.” Yet that is exactly how O’Sullivan spelled the name in his article on Prince Edward Island. May the ghost of Lucy Maud Montgomery and millions of “Anne” fans forgive him--and you--for printing her name without that “e.”

I found his article about P. E. I. charming and I’m sending a copy to my pen pal who lives near Charlottetown, the provincial capital. And the answer to O’Sullivan’s query “Did she (L. M. Montgomery) use the island as the model for ‘Anne of Green Gables?”’ is yes. Green Gables was the home of her cousins, the MacNeal family. And though she emigrated to the “mainland” after her marriage, P. E. I. was the home of her heart and soul.
