Vietnam Vets’ Group Stages VA Protest
A dozen members of a new group called Vietnam Veterans in Recovery gathered outside the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Los Angeles on Thursday to protest cuts in special treatment for people suffering post-traumatic stress disorder.
Their complaint centered on a 2-year-old program that is being discontinued at the 600-acre West Los Angeles facility. The program has provided one full-time psychiatrist and a part-time social worker to aid those with the disease.
Veterans Administration officials said the program is not being discontinued altogether but is being moved to a downtown outpatient facility at 4th and Hill streets. The protesting veterans argued that facility is highly inconvenient for them.
