Europe’s Population Rises

BRUSSELS —
The population of the 12 European Community countries has risen to more than 325 million, but almost half the increase in the past year is due to immigration, the statistical office Eurostat said Thursday. On Jan. 1, 1989, the community’s population reached 325,472,000, an increase of 1,277,000 from 1988 figures, Eurostat said.
