Gunfire was reported in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu, but diplomats said the city appeared generally calm one day after clashes between religious worshipers and security forces left 23 people dead and 59 wounded. Police said the violence erupted when religious demonstrators attacked security forces. But witnesses said it appeared troops opened fire as Muslim worshipers left their place of prayer.
