Republic Pilots Support Checchi: The former Republic Airlines pilots at Northwest Airlines have decided to support Los Angeles investor Alfred A. Checchi’s $4.05 billion bid for NWA Inc., Northwest’s parent. The Northwest pilots group was still studying confidential financial details provided by Checchi, and was expected to announce a decision Thursday. Republic merged with Northwest in 1986. Checchi intends to borrow $3.35 billion to help pay for NWA, and the pilots were concerned about the effect of the debt on the airline.
