Britain is exploring the possibility of restoring diplomatic relations with Argentina, it was disclosed in London. The Thatcher government has asked Brazil, which represents British interests in Buenos Aires, to test President Carlos Menem’s intentions. It also has asked the United States, which recently resumed military sales to Argentina, for an assessment of that government’s willingness to drop the Falkland Islands issue as a precondition to normalization of relations. Relations were broken off in April, 1982, when Argentina invaded the Falklands, and have never been restored.
