TYRE, Lebanon —
Gunmen attacked a U.N. post in south Lebanon with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades Friday, seriously wounding a Fijian member of peacekeeping forces.
Timor Goksel, spokesman for the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, said the 20-minute clash in the village of Saadikin, 54 miles south of Beirut, ended after Fijian troops manning the post fired a tank shell at the attackers.
A Fijian soldier was badly wounded in the eyes and taken to a hospital in Israel, he said.
