Confrontation at Tustin’s Abortion Clinic

Share

I have been reading your articles in the Orange County section and also in the front pages, and I want to commend your writers for providing as much detail as possible regarding the pro-choice and pro-life sides.

I had a chat with a friend at work regarding the issue of abortion; he is a Catholic who believes that all killing is murder and that abortion is murder. I asked him how he felt about an 18-year-old boy joining the military to protect our rights and freedoms at all costs, including killing other members of the human race. He said he was willing to support that type of activity.

The point I want to make is that terminating life is a choice a person makes. My friend is willing to agree with our military establishment and the constitutional laws to protect our freedoms, even if it requires a person to sacrifice his body. He is able to rationalize that dying for your country is not the same as having an abortion.

I advised him that in either case, terminating a life would take place. He just happens to accept one type of killing and cannot accept the choice that a person makes to abort a child.

The real issue is not killing, murder or termination of life. The real issue is whether women have the right to rule over their own bodies. If (like men) they can make a decision to enlist in the military services, knowing what consequences to accept, I can’t see why our society should interfere with their abortion rights.
