Cuba’s former transport minister, Diocles Torralbas, has been convicted on corruption charges and sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to the official newspaper Granma. Torralbas was convicted by a Havana tribunal of embezzlement, abuse of authority and misuse of state funds and resources. Torralbas was fired as minister June 13 and later expelled from the Communist Party. Although he was accused of corruption, it was not suggested that he had been involved in the drug trade.
