Hundreds of Beijing Students Rally to Protest Crackdown
Hundreds of Beijing students rallied to vent their anger over the crackdown on the pro-democracy movement, students said today. It was the first protest reported since the movement was suppressed in early June.
At least 300 Beijing University students gathered outside their dormitories Sunday night to sing sarcastic renditions of patriotic songs and to mourn those who died in the crackdown, said students who participated.
After about an hour, the students marched to the campus area where students had put up thousands of political posters during the spring democracy movement. They sang and beat pots and pans to mourn classmates killed June 3-4 when troops opened fire on protesters.
