Convertible Cover-Up for Pickups

Share

If you’re a pickup owner who has hunted for a truck-bed cover so you can have an instant, secure “trunk,” consider Truk ‘n’ Trunk, a new motorized, locking cover.

When installed, it works like a roll-top desk. It opens for full or partial use of the truck bed, then slides out over the bed and locks over the tailgate.

Introduced earlier this year by Royalstar Industries of Arlington, Tex., Truk ‘n’ Trunk is compatible with all American-made and imported pickups, including compacts, extended cabs and long and short beds. It is made of lightweight aluminum--with the largest size weighing only 70 pounds--and is rustproof.

Truk ‘n’ Trunk was invented by Texan Ed Russell, who said he was tired of lifting his daughter’s tack equipment out of the truck bed and into the cab to secure it.

Russell said the cover does not “significantly alter vehicle weight (or) affect factory performance standards, and in fact, when it’s closed, driving is enhanced and gas mileage is improved significantly because of less wind resistance.”

The cover costs $970 for small- and mid-size pickups, $1,100 for full-size, plus $75 for installation. In California, it is available from ProductCenter Sales at 27324 Camino Capistrano, Suite 131-132, Laguna Niguel, Calif. 92677; phone, (714) 582-7001.

For distributors in other areas, contact Royalstar Industries Inc., 1115 California Lane, P.O. Box 151599, Arlington, Tex., 76015; phone, (800) 344-8785.

Information Lock-Up

Just offered by a Southern California inventor is Lockette, a little device that locks a computer disc drive so no one can get data out of your machine or erase files when you’re not around. It also can keep kids from playing so many video games.

The Lockette is a diskette that slips into the drive, then locks with a tubular key lock. It fits most 5 1/4-inch flip-lever, IBM-type hard- and dual-drive computers, says manufacturer Jay Dernan.

The lock costs $16.95 including postage and handling and can be ordered from Z-Lock Manufacturing Co., P.O. Box 949, Redondo Beach, Calif. 90277; phone, (213) 372-4842.
