3 Tenants Face Eviction Sue City Over Zoning
Three senior citizens facing eviction filed a lawsuit in Superior Court on Tuesday against the city of Glendale for approving a project by their landlord, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to replace their apartment complex with a parking structure.
Marion Simmons, Juanita Fernandez and Susan Barklay, who live on fixed incomes at the Village Court apartment complex adjacent to the church on North Central Avenue, claim that the city violated its housing policy by allowing the depletion of its affordable housing stock.
A city hearing is set Aug. 10 before the Board of Zoning Adjustments to hear the tenants’ appeal.
