Fugitive Nazi War Criminal Returned to West Germany
Fugitive Nazi war criminal Gottfried Weise was extradited to West Germany on Friday to serve a life term in prison for the murder of at least three inmates of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
Weise, 69, had fled his country in April shortly before the German supreme court confirmed a lower court verdict against him. He was arrested on an international warrant Tuesday in the Swiss town of Thun, where he had been hospitalized under a false name after suffering a stroke.
On Thursday, he agreed to be extradited without formal proceedings.
