El Diario Seeks Bankruptcy Protection: El Diario de Los Angeles, a Spanish-language daily newspaper that debuted two years ago, has filed for bankruptcy. The owners are seeking to liquidate under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, claiming assets of nearly $32,000 against liabilities of more than $23 million. Mexican investors had provided $6 million to start up El Diario as Los Angeles’ third Spanish-language daily.
