Disney Agrees to Help Sponsor UCI Athletic Programs

UC Irvine officials announced Tuesday that the Walt Disney Co. has agreed to a corporate sponsorship package with the university’s athletic programs in 1989-90.

Disney will sponsor the Freedom Bowl basketball tournament and the UCI Athletic Hall of Fame banquet as part of the package. Disneyland also will sponsor the radio broadcasts for Anteater basketball games.

“We consider developing a relationship with Disneyland as a great step in upgrading our athletic programs,” Irvine Athletic Director John Caine said. “We feel that this agreement will be beneficial to both parties.”
