The Supreme Soviet voted Friday to set up special commissions to fight the country’s ballooning crime rate, the official Tass news agency said.

Deputies of the Soviet Union’s inner parliament approved a proposal by President Mikhail S. Gorbachev to create crime-battling commissions at local and national levels. They will be staffed by KGB men, officials from the prosecutor’s office and the interior ministry, judges and lawyers, Tass said.
