Santa Ana-Anaheim Area Ranks in Top 10 Most Livable Cities
The Anaheim-Santa Ana area has a shot at being chosen the most livable city in the United States and currently ranks in the Top 10, based on an analysis of factors that affect quality of life.
San Diego and San Francisco also are vying for the No. 1 spot. Pittsburgh, chosen as the most livable city in the United States four years ago, once again will finish in the Top 10 when the new ratings come out.
The formal announcement of the No. 1 city and the runners-up will be made Oct. 24 by Prentice Hall Trade, a publishing company owned by Simon & Schuster Inc., which bought Rand-McNally travel directories. Rand-McNally published the 1985 list.
Prentice Hall Trade, the publisher of 1989’s “The Places Rated Almanac,” revealed the Top 10 cities but not their actual ratings.
The Top 10 cities also included Boston; Louisville, Ky.; Nassau-Suffolk, N.Y; New York City; Seattle, and Washington.
Richard Boyer and David Savageau, who were the authors of the last almanac, also wrote the 1989 edition. The book includes ratings of 333 metropolitan areas based on nine factors: climate, cost of living, recreation, arts, health care, environment, education, transportation and crime.
The publication combines Anaheim and Santa Ana based on proximity and similarities in life style.
