The U.S. Border Patrol has fined a San Diego firm $56,400 for 226 alleged violations of a 1986 law designed to prevent the employment of illegal aliens.

The fine against Arm Cal Industries Inc., on Sorrento Valley Road, is the largest to date served by the Border Patrol in San Diego since federal officials began enforcing the law in 1987.

Patrol agents in San Diego have assessed almost $500,000 in fines against more than 100 area businesses. An additional 200 employers are under investigation, said Gene R. Smithburg, assistant chief patrol agent in San Diego.
