JUST SAY ‘YES’?

Siegel’s premise seems to be “The desire to become intoxicated is natural and animalistic; therefore, it is good and should not be suppressed.” I wholeheartedly disagree. Has Siegel been to downtown Los Angeles lately to see the people literally living from bottle to bottle (alcohol) or rock to rock (cocaine)?

If there is one trait that separates us from all other animals, it is the ability to reason. Contrary to what Siegel seems to think, man does have the ability to examine the choices before him, consider the ramifications of each option, and then make a decision based on those considerations. Although some in society wish to believe otherwise, man does not have to give in to every animalistic desire.
