Union Shop

Share

I note that our new union-dominated school board has agreed to put the issue of agency shop to a vote by the teachers. With most of the teachers now union members the outcome is predictable. This despite the superintendent’s recommendation that agency shop should be a collective bargaining issue. My point is not to debate the merits of agency shop.

What I wish to point out is that Wayne Johnson, president of the teachers’ union, now appears to be the de facto head of our school district. To whom is he responsible? I hope he and his union are willing to take the heat when things don’t magically get better in our schools--perhaps even get worse. Well, the voters gave it away by staying away from the voting booth in droves.
