Moorpark Activist Files for Board of Education

Share

A Moorpark community activist who attempted twice in 1988 to recall four members of the Moorpark Unified School District’s Board of Education has filed for one of two open seats on the board.

Pamela Castro spearheaded two recall efforts aimed at board members who voted to sell or develop the site of the now-unused downtown high school. The district maintains that the move was necessary to bring in funds needed for new schools in developing areas of the city. Castro said the move was fiscally irresponsible.

Both recall efforts failed for lack of signatures on petitions.

Castro’s filing brings the number of candidates to three. Moorpark Parks and Recreation Commission Chairman Sam Nainoa and current board member Lynda Kira filed last week. Incumbent Carla Robertson, a 10-year member of the board, did not file, which caused the extension of the filing deadline from last Friday to 5 p.m. today.
