Times Chess Columnist to Play in S.D.

Jack Peters, chess columnist for The Times and an international master of the game, will be featured Sunday at the Bill Glass Memorial Action Tournament.

The Balboa Chess Club is host of the daylong event that begins at 9 a.m. in its clubhouse, 6th Avenue and Ivy Street in Balboa Park. Cash prizes as high as $325 will be awarded to the best open and reserve players in the time-controlled games. The entry fee is $38 at the door for open players, or $33 for reserve players.

Peters will also play a simultaneous exhibition at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chess Club. Cost is $4 for spectators and $20 per board for players. For information, call 287-0089.
