WORLD : Priest’s Loudspeakers Silenced
From Times wire services
AVELLINO, Italy —
A priest who set up loudspeakers outside his church to blare out the sound of bells, prayers and hymn-singing was silenced today.
Magistrates confiscated Father Giuseppe Iasso’s holy hi-fi equipment after angry parishioners in Avellino, near Naples, complained that the din not only disturbed their sleep but also stopped them working.
Father Iasso said he planned to appeal the ruling.
