A Station’s Death

I can’t believe that people are making such a ruckus about the Joker’s art-destroying spree in “Batman” when a real disaster is imminent: the coming destruction of KFAC-FM.

When a classical radio station gets killed (all right, turned into a rock station, but that’s the same thing), usually it’s because the station didn’t make money. KFAC was not losing money when it was bought out earlier this year by Evergreen (or is it Evergreed?) Productions. But Evergreen’s people want a radio station in Los Angeles, and what is it to them to destroy the only all-classical station in town?

This is nothing short of cultural vandalism. In terms every Angeleno would understand, it is as though a unique and wonderful restaurant were knocked down so that it could be replaced by yet another frozen-yogurt shop.
