Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, in a move to serve more of South County, has launched a $20-million fund-raising campaign for an expansion and remodeling program at the 15-year-old nonprofit hospital.
James L. Ray, the hospital’s executive vice president, said the hospital is considering adding up to 100 more beds to its existing 215. The hospital also needs a second catheter laboratory for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Ray said that just a year ago, the medical center completed a $40-million expansion that included construction of a women’s hospital and a medical office building.
He added that last month the hospital opened a 15-bed cancer unit and obtained state licensing for its first pediatric beds.
