Some of the spiritual and environmental projects under way at the Baca:

--Crestone Mountain Zen Center, 80 acres. Includes a main living building, organic gardens, wood shop, pottery studio and domed chapel. Land was donated by Hanne and Maurice Strong to the Lindisfarne Assn., along with about 250 other acres sold to raise building funds.

--Nada Hermitage Spiritual Life Institute, monastic community of Carmelite order of the Roman Catholics Church, 80 acres. Includes chapel, hermitages, kitchen, dining room, library.

--RedSun Institute, International Educational Center for Indigenous Peoples, planned 100 acres for a traditional tribal village, a council lodge and youth camp.

--Colorado College Southwest Studies program. At the former Aspen Institute conference center.

--San Luis Valley Tibetan Project, 200 acres. A monastery, retreat and medical institute are planned.

--Haidakhandi Universal Ashram, 46 acres. Temple under construction. Residential community planned.

--Sri Aurobindo Learning Center, 61 acres. A “solar farming community” is planned.

--Quinoa Project, 30 acres. Aims to develop a high-elevation agricultural system based on the Peruvian grain quinoa and other mountain crops.

--World Unity Garden, Seed Bank and Experimental Gardens.
