Japan Offers Iran Deal: Japan, working to lessen its oil dependence on erratic Iran, has offered $1.25 billion to end Japanese participation in a joint multibillion-dollar petrochemical project. In Iran, the Tehran Times quoted Iran’s ambassador to Tokyo as saying that Japan had offered to settle its account and end the partnership but that Iran would prefer to continue the deal. In New York, David Mizrahi, editor of the Mideast Report, said he doubted that Japan would pay that much money just to get out of the project.
