Yes, charcoal barbecue fires can be easily started by other means than liquids, which pollute the atmosphere and maybe cause damage to body tissues.

For three years our electric charcoal fire starter has done well for small and medium amounts of charcoal. For a large fire use lighted newspapers at the bottom of an inverted wire cone of charcoal. Paper costs nothing. If such a wire device cannot be found in your state it is not hard to make one. Yours for cleaner air!
