Fans, Police Injured in Athens Soccer Riot
Forty-five people were injured when soccer fans attending an exhibition match at the Olympic Stadium in Athens attacked each other Friday night and then battled riot police.
Officials said that among the injured were 14 policemen, two of whom were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The violence broke out in the 65th minute of a match between AEK of Athens and Olympiakos of Piraeus. Small clashes between supporters of the two teams had followed each time a goal was scored.
After both teams scored two goals, riot police tried to disperse the disruptive fans with tear gas but were unsuccessful.
