Hurricane Kiko, with winds near 115 m.p.h., roared into the Gulf of California, and residents of the southern Baja California peninsula braced for the storm. Kiko was expected to hit by early today. Ferry service to the mainland was canceled, and small craft were advised to remain in port. Heavy rain was falling south of La Paz, capital of sparsely populated Baja California Sur state, and waves more than 10 feet high were crashing on the coast in Buenavista, a town of 800 people about 60 miles south of La Paz, public safety officials said.
