France’s Jeannie Longo won her fourth consecutive road race and eighth race overall at the World Cycling Championships Saturday.

In the amateur men’s race, Joachim Halupczok of Poland won by almost three minutes.

The two-week long championships conclude today with the professional race. Tour de France winner Greg LeMond will seek to regain the title he won in 1983.

Longo pulled away on the third of six laps around Chambery, gaining 19 seconds in less than 2.4 miles on a modest hill. The total distance was 46.02 miles. She won in 1 hour 56 minutes 41 seconds. France’s Catherine Marsal was second and Italy’s Maria Canins was third--both 4:05 behind Longo.

It was Longo’s third world title this year. She won the individual pursuit for the third time and the points race last week in Lyon.
