Argentina’s Leader Says Thatcher Could Be Invited for Visit
Argentine President Carlos Saul Menem said in an interview published Wednesday that he would invite Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to Buenos Aires if diplomatic relations between the nations are restored.
Menem told the Times of London he welcomes direct talks with Thatcher “in England, in Argentina or in any part of the world,” and he expressed a willingness to discuss the two nations’ 1982 Falkland Islands War with her at the U.N. General Assembly in New York next month.
In his interview with the newspaper, Menem said he excluded the possibility of trying again to recover the Falklands by force.
