The Press and ‘Group-Think’

Your Aug. 25 article was headlined “How Media Gives Stories Same ‘Spin,’ ” using the word “media” as a singular noun. In writer David Shaw’s text of that article, “media” is used as both a singular and plural noun.

To accept “media” in its all-too-common use as a singular noun robs our language of the clear difference between “medium” and “media.” I would hope that the media, especially, would be sensitive to this important difference.
