U.S. Users and Colombian ‘War’

Share

I’m watching the “War on Drugs” erupting and growing hotter in Colombia and elsewhere. I hear the politicians talking about the toll that these drugs are taking on our society. Does it occur to anyone what the Colombian drug lords are fighting over? What gangs are fighting over? What drug users commit most crimes for? Money. Not drugs.

Drugs have been around throughout history and have never caused the kind of turmoil that we see now. Money has also been around throughout history and has always caused the kind of turmoil that we see today.

We have invented most of the problems associated with drugs and we perpetuate them. Where is it written in the Constitution that the government’s role is to regulate the chemical composition of an individual’s bloodstream?

We live in a country that is slowly phasing out domestic consumption of tobacco (a known killer) and shifting the emphasis to greater export of this product to Asia. Why does a liquor store owner live in peace while a drug dealer is jailed? Does this sound inconsistent? I guess it’s OK as long as the drugs (alcohol, tobacco, coffee) are important to U.S. economic interests.
