Angels Rally Against Drugs

While many Southlanders spent their holiday afternoon at the beach, a concerned group spent the day conveying a message of support to President George Bush’s $8 billion plan for a war on drugs.

About 35 people shouting slogans of “Bust the Thugs, Burn the Drugs,” and carrying a mock coffin inscribed with “Deposit Drug Lords Here,” gathered at the Federal Building in Westwood to participate in the 1 p.m. vigil organized nationwide by Guardian Angels.

“We want to tell President Bush, ‘We will support you, but go at it full-hearted,’ ” said Steve Kirkman, Los Angeles Chapter leader of the Angels. “I think we have the resources, but we need to pull together.”
