Dollar Falls in Europe

LONDON — The U.S. dollar fell against major currencies in European trading today on reports that Japan might consider new action to lower dollar exchange rates. Gold prices rose. However, traders reported that the Bank of Japan continued to intervene and a Bank of Japan governor said later that it wasn’t appropriate to determine monetary policy on the basis of dollar rates.
