P.M. BRIEFING : Japan Punishes 6 Bid-Rigging Firms

TOKYO —
Japan’s construction ministry banned six firms from bidding on its public works projects in western Japan for one month starting today for violating anti-monopoly laws.
The United States has complained about bid-rigging in the Japanese building industry, and the issue was discussed at bilateral talks in Tokyo on structural impediments to fair trade that ended Sept. 4.
