Steinlager increased its lead to 130 miles on the 11th day of the Whitbread Round-the-World sailing race. The New Zealand yacht, skippered by Peter Blake, pulled farther ahead of its nearest challenger, the Swiss boat Merit. Rothmans, a British boat, is in third place, about 100 miles behind Merit.

All 23 boats that started the race are still on the first leg of the 33,000-mile race from Southampton, England, to Punta del Este, Uruguay.
