Westminster : Council Votes to Annex 5 Midway City Homes

Share

The Westminster City Council has voted unanimously to proceed with the annexation of five Midway City homes despite the opposition of two community associations in the area.

Both the Midway City Community Organization and the Midway City Chamber of Commerce and Homeowners’ Assn. said they will fight the proposal. Kent Credit, president of the Midway City Community Organization, told City Council members that Midway City residents would “oppose this measure at every step.”

The Local Agency Formation Commission, which must grant its approval before Westminster is allowed to annex the homes, will consider the city’s annexation request at a public hearing Oct 4.

The issue has angered some Midway City residents who fear that annexation will erode their independence as a county-governed community within Westminster.

The homes are along Beach Boulevard, just north of McFadden Avenue. Ed Falzon, who owns four of the homes, asked the City Council last month to annex his properties so he could more easily change their zoning from residential to commercial.
