The World : Dissident Escapes China
One of China’s seven most-wanted dissident intellectuals, Su Xiaokang, has escaped after three months on the run from Chinese police. “I hid out in villages, in forests and in the mountains,” Su said in an interview at a secret Hong Kong address, where he arrived 10 days ago. Su was the author of a controversial Chinese television series, “River Elegy,” which questioned the system of government. The arrest warrant for Su was issued after troops crushed the pro-democracy movement in Beijing in June.
