Nu-Med Inc.: The Encino-based health-care firm, which has sold several of its hospitals and reduced its debt over the last few years, said its continuing operations have returned to profitability in the first quarter after a $376,000 loss a year ago. Due to a $4.2-million one-time gain realized in the 1988 quarter, however, net income dropped 78% to $1.04 million. Revenue rose 15% in the quarter to $73.9 million.
