Cadillac Studying 32-Valve V8: The luxury division of General Motors said it may soon offer a 32-valve V8 because it cannot extract more power from its current engines without triggering additional gas guzzler taxes. Cadillac’s chief engineer, R. L. Dorn, said during a new model preview in Auburn Hills, Mich., that work is being done on such a motor by the GM luxury car division. Dorn hinted that such an engine would most probably appear in its flagship Allante two-seat roadster, which he called Cadillac’s “technological test bed.” The Allante’s prime competitor, the Mercedes SL coupe, will have a 32-valve V8 when it debuts in the U.S. market as an all-new model this fall.
