Israel has expelled nearly 100 Arab women and children from the occupied West Bank to Jordan under cover of darkness, Palestinians said. The women were non-resident wives of resident Palestinians whose visitors’ permits from the occupying Israeli authorities had expired. Palestinians interviewed said that 94 Arab women and children were seized in midnight roundups in late August and early September. “That sounds like a lot of baloney,” said army spokesman Col. Raanan Gissin. “If we want to deport, we don’t do it in the middle of the night.” But a spokesman for Israel’s Civil Administration in the West Bank confirmed the report, saying night is the best time to pick up deportees.
