Hindu Politician Slain in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India —
Gunmen shot and killed a prominent Hindu politician Thursday in Srinagar, the main city of India’s northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said Tiklal Tiploo, a senior official in the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party, was shot by two men as he left his home. It was not clear whether the gunmen were Sikh separatists or Muslim rebels fighting for Kashmir’s independence from India. The Hindu-revivalist party has incurred the wrath of both.
