Eastern Gets More Time: A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge approved a request by Eastern Airlines to extend its deadline for filing a revised plan for emerging from bankruptcy, overruling objections from the carrier’s striking unions. The ruling by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Burton Lifland gives Eastern a 60-day extension to its exclusive right to file a reorganization plan and file a detailed disclosure statement that was due Friday. Eastern said its original reorganization plan, filed July 21, needs to be revamped because the carrier did not sell its South American routes, valued at $365 million, as it had planned.
