Naim Suleymanoglu of Turkey, a gold-medal winner at the Seoul Olympics, won his third title at the Weightlifting World Championships at Athens, hoisting a total of 698 1/2 pounds in the snatch competition.

Nikolai Peshalov of Bulgaria finished second, lifting 22 pounds less than Suleymanoglu.

Suleymanoglu, who was born in Bulgaria, failed to better any of the three world records he set while winning at Seoul.

Ivan Ivanov of Bulgaria put on a dramatic display of weightlifting technique when he hoisted 341 pounds on his third lift in the jerk competition to set a flyweight (114 1/2 pounds) class world record of 577 1/2 pounds.
