Japan’s No. 2 auto maker Nissan Motor Co. announced Wednesday a three-point plan to reduce exports, increase overseas production and expand imports, including finished vehicles.

The announcement coincided with newspaper reports that the government will urge auto makers and electronics and machinery makers not to take advantage of the weakening value of the Japanese yen to mount an export drive for fear of escalating trade friction between Japan and the United States.
