Sierra Madre : Plan for 2 Houses Approved
Lawson Martin, a Pasadena developer who owns 100 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, has obtained approval for the development of 3.3 acres in Sierra Madre.
Although about 50 residents, many opposed to the development, appeared at a City Council meeting last week, the council gave Martin approval to place two single-family homes on the Chantry Flats Road site.
Martin had originally sought to split the lot to allow the construction of four houses, but the council recommended denial in May, saying the environmental impact report was inadequate.
Martin then scaled down development to two units and revised the environmental impact report.
The approval is subject to conditions that include the construction of a reservoir on the property for fire protection, the installation of an electronic device to open the gate on Chantry Flats Road, which is normally closed to evening traffic, and the securing of a grading permit for the removal of 2,500 cubic yards of earth.
