WORLD : Israel ‘Can’t’ Extradite Colonel

JERUSALEM — Israel said today it could not extradite to Colombia a reserve army colonel alleged to have trained hit squads for Colombian drug gangs.
“The extradition of Yair Klein is legally impossible,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Yosef Amihud told reporters.
He said Bogota had not yet asked Israel to hand over Klein, although Colombia’s security and intelligence agency said Tuesday it had issued warrants for his arrest and extradition on charges of criminal conspiracy.
